BetTube, a website designed for users to wager on the popularity odds for new YouTube videos, puts a new spin on gambling.
Developed in Munich and launched on March 1st 2013, BetTube allows users to wager on the future popularity of any video release on YouTube, whether it is a pop-music, documentary or even a fan-made video.
Users can bet on how many views a video can get over the next 12 hours after its release on YouTube. BetTube encourages players to gamble on videos that have a low view count, i.e. less than 1000 views, expanding the odds on how famous a video may get in the upcoming hours.
By using crowdsourcing bets, Bettube.co can be used as a tool for determining which video will go viral in the short run.
How does it work?
- -Any new video launched on YouTube can be wagered on.
- -12 hours after the first bet has been placed, BetTube will choose the top 5 videos with the largest number of wagers.
- -BetTube will compare the popularity odds against the number of actual views on YouTube.
- -The video that has the largest odd difference will be declared the winner.
- -The winner will take 50% of the pot; the second best will take 30%, and 20% will go to the third one.
BetTube went online on February 2013, and by now it has attracted a large number of gamblers worldwide, offering a new marketing opportunity for video makers.
