Play nowThe Swedish Tax Agency, Skatteverket, has announced it will impose additional taxes on the gaming software developer, Net Entertainment NE AB, due to an audit error in their last tax memorandum.
The Swedish Tax Agency made a mistake with the imposed tax rate when verifying the financial statements from NetEnt in the 2007-2010 year period. The previously announced tax imposition of 88.1M SEK (~135,766,505 USD) will now reach 92.1M SEK (~141,930,705 USD).
Skatteverket stated that the mistake was due to differences in the analysis of tax imposition between NetEnt headquarters in Sweden and their subsidiary in Malta. NetEnt announced that the Tax Agency’s decision was unfounded, and they would appeal the decision for the related tax adjustment and tax surcharges, relying on expert advisors from PwC and the Lindahl law firm.
As many European gaming software companies, NetEnt keeps its product development in Sweden and bases its sales, customer and market departments in Malta. The taxes are paid according to each country’s regulations.
According to Elisabeth Lennhede, NetEnt’s Communications Director, the company plans to appeal the tax agency’s decision and will not foresee provisions on their financial accounts for the newly imposed amount.
