Gambling Ad restrictions in the Commonwealth?

Friday, 08 Feb, 2013

The UK and Australia will implement new advertising regulations for online gaming operators. The new measure comes as a way to control casino ads on the web, especially in social media, thus encouraging responsible gaming behavior among companies.

Ever since the social media giant, Facebook, started allowing commercial ads, online casino operators have been on the frontline investing large amounts of money to post news or special offers and inviting specific users to try out their online games.

Geo-location and user filtering play a major role for these companies’ advertisements.

Nowadays, the competition has been growing tighter, especially since Zuckerberg and his pals legally allowed real money social games on Facebook. Major software developers took the lead to create betting social apps where players could invite friends to play online games with them.

Further on the subject, the Australian Green Party is not only considering a bill on gambling ad restrictions but also expanding it to include sports wagering ads on a federal level. If applied, this measure would represent one of the biggest legal movements to control betting advertisements in the world.

Australian senator, Richard Di Natale, said, This is an issue that affects everybody, people are sick of sitting down and watching a game of footy and being bombarded by gambling ads.
