Battlestar Galactica has been around as a TV franchise since the late 1970s. It’s spawned countless ventures into books, games and other merchandise. This fancy Microgaming Battlestar Galactica slot is based on the TV remake of the series that first aired in 2003.
The design of the game itself sticks with that of the TV series, which makes it a pretty authentic-looking addition to the new face of the franchise. It’s part of Microgaming’s newest and hottest, which is also reflected in the technical design of the game.
A Closer Look
The Battlestar Galactica slot comes without paylines. Instead, there are the so-called way wins. There are 243 possible combinations. Wins are gained every time these combinations show up with the symbols appearing in adjacent columns from left to right. Multiple combinations are possible with every spin.
Of the basic symbols, 8 are made up of the ship’s crew (although Commander Adama is missing for some mysterious reason). The remaining five are made up of letters A, J, K and Q as well as the number 10. The symbol showing a fighter craft works as a scatter: If 3, 4 or 5 of them appear the player is awarded 15 free spins. During the free spins, a 3x multiplier kicks in as well. Free spins can’t be retriggered.
The wild symbol displays the badge of Battlestar Galactica and substitutes for any other symbol except the scatter. It’s stacked on reel 1 during normal mode and also in base game and free spins mode.
Free Spin Features
Free spins are triggered by the scatter symbol, which displays the small fighter craft known from the TV series. 3, 4 or 5 of these get you 15 free spins in normal mode, a number that’s reduced to 5 in Fight mode (see below).
Special Features
Battlestar Galactica video slot has three main modes. In normal mode, an Ion Storm can hit at any time, turning up to 5 reels wild. This is a great addition, except that free spins can’t be triggered in this mode. The randomly occurring Run mode has all wins pay left to right and right to left, with a special jump symbol. This symbol, if it lands on the middle wheel, transforms any A, J, K, Q and 10 symbol into a mystery symbol that brings additional wins.
The third mode is called Fight. In it, random symbols can turn into wilds at any time. Also, the wild can split and get you even bigger wins. Fight mode is an extension of Run mode, and if it occurs the free spins the scatter brings are reduced to 5.
