The mid-western state of Iowa in the US has been following in Las Vegas and New Jersey’s footsteps by trying to pass a bill that would allow internet casinos.
The Iowa Gambling Industry passed on such a bill to the state senate in March of 2012. However, the state senate hasn’t even considered approving it.
According to a recent poll, a policy on regulated online gambling doesn’t appeal to the city’s residents, with almost 69% of Iowa’s adult residents opposing Internet gambling and only 29% supporting it.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission regulator, Jeff Lamberti, said the Internet gambling is the future of the industry and the state would be prepared to regulate it if the Legislature was approved
Lamberti also stressed that the initiative should come from the state’s lawmakers and the governor in order to fully approve it and ensure the development of this online industry.
That’s really where the next step in gaming is moving […] We’ve seen some states approve it and are moving in that direction.
The new online gambling regulation would encourage the state to control casino sites and keep watch over unregistered companies and protect from possible frauds. According to the Iowa Gaming Association, there are approximately 150,000 Iowans who gamble online at casino sites located outside the US.
