Roulette is without a doubt
one of the most famous casino games. In fact it's so famous it defines most people's mental image of a casino! What actually goes back to one of the world's most famous mathematician has made an exciting addition to any casino since the 18th century. Join in with history and try your luck – now easier than ever, as the game's a must-have for online gambling sites. Welcome to our Roulette section.
The game goes back to French mathematician Blaise Pascal, who tried to build a perpetuum mobile (i.e. a machine that just keeps going without any driving force), but was unsuccessful. What was a scientific failure turned out to be a highly exciting game: Combine it with a numerical bet, and you've got the local gentry's new favorite toy. It took off on a popularity spree to England too, but disappeared again when games of chance were made illegal in 1740. Back in France, the number 0 was added about 50 years later, increasing the total to 37 and creating the game we all know today as the French wheel.
Roulette was an immediate hit when François Blanc opened Monte Carlo's first casino. Its massive success in the world's first gambling mecca made sure it became popular all around the world. Of course every aspect of popular culture had to have a look at it: It was duly noted that, if added up, the numbers of the game made the number of the beast. 666 in connection with gambling hit a time when some people were debating so-called subliminal satanic messages on Beatles albums and caused quite a stir.
Today's online games are based on the American version of the game, the double-zero wheel. They're among the most popular online games. Finding the best sites and games can be tricky, but that's what we're here for. Check back every now and then
