The legendary “Poker Brat”, Phil Hellmuth, has done it once again. Hellmuth was able to overcome a total of 420 players to capture his 13th bracelet, as well as the €1,022,376 first place prize money. Earlier in the summer he won his 12th World Series of Poker bracelet and extended his lead in the all time bracelet winners list. Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan share the second place on the leaderboard with 10 bracelets, so if anyone wants to dethrone Hellmuth, they have a lot of work to do.
Phil started at the final table as chip leader and due to his experience he was able to keep up the good performance until he was victorious. It wasn’t a smooth ride; however, as at the final table Hellmuth clashed with the Ukranian, Sergii Baranov, on numerous occasions. They both made it to the heads up battle, where Phil was finally able to capitalize on his superior experience and skills. Hellmuth, who is extremely well known for his immature behavior and harsh criticism of opponents, didn’t let his fans down this time either. He rolled around on the floor and called Baranov names in a childish manner. All the moaning was premature, since later on Hellmuth himself got extremely lucky on several occasions as he collected his record breaking 13th WSOP bracelet.
With his latest victory “Poker Brat” also became the first person ever to win both WSOP and WSOPE main events. He also leads the WSOP Player of the Year race; last year he finished second, so the grand master is doing well and playing some of his best poker games ever.
