NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group and sofware provider Microgaming have signed a deal to publish a video slot game based on the legendary science fiction series Battlestar Galactica.
The story of Battlestar Galactica is set in a far away star system, where a group of humans live on planets commonly known as the Twelve Colonies. The Colonies are at war with a cybernetic race called Cylons, whom they have created in the past. Aided by a human named Gaius Baltar, the Cylons launch a sneak attack on the Colonies, wreaking havoc and killing most of the population. Only 50,000 humans survive, most of which are on civilian space vessels that managed to avoid the destruction. The only real military force left is the Battleship Galactica run by William „Bill“ Adama (Edward James Olmos). The TV series follows the journey of space refugees led by Battlestar Galactica, as they search for a place of refuge known as Earth.
Roger Raatgever, CEO for Microgaming, said:
We are thrilled to be creating video slots that are light years ahead of the rest based on one of the best television programmes of our time. We know we will do the Battlestar Galactica brand justice and that we will not only please our own base of players but exceed the expectations of the show’s fans. We plan to use our market-leading software and years of expertise in the gaming industry to ensure that our video game slots will match the success of the show.
Battlestar Galactica won three Emmy awards and reached over 14 million viewers during its final season.
