Book of Ra
In a Nutshell
Book of Ra is the original version of Austrian developer Novoline’s flagship slot game (from their Novomatic division), with a theme reminiscent of Indian Jones or Howard Carter, replete with pyramids, scarab beetles and other ancient treasures.
A Closer Look
Ra, the ancient Egyptian god of the sun, is still being worshipped, at least in a way, with this stunning slot from Novomatic. The symbols include an Indiana Jones-type figure, a scarab beetle amulet and a winged idol perhaps more reminiscent of ancient Assyria.
In any event this game is perhaps functionally a little more sophisticated than some of their other slots, such as Sizzling Hot, with more leeway in terms of amounts per line you can bet, and some super graphics as well as slightly beefed-up sound FX.
The Book of Ra symbol itself acts as both a Wild, doubling for any symbol as well as accruing healthy wins with 3 or more, and a scatter (see below) triggering the free spins round.
Free Spins Features
The Scatter symbol as noted is the Book of Ra icon; if you get 3 or more of these at any point on the screen, you will get 10 free spins.
These free spins in turn commence with the selection at random of the expanding symbol (which can be any one of the regular symbols).
The expanding symbol can expand up to 3 points on a reel (which needn’t be adjacent) and on any payline, and is triggered if enough other symbols are present to make up a win.
Special Features
The Autoplay function runs from 1 to 50 spins.
Book of Ra also has the signature ‘gamble or collect’ feature which Novomatic put on many of their games. This is triggered every time you have a win in regular play, where you get the ‘take or risk’ option, which, if you take it, opens up a video poker-type screen, where you can double your winning on the last spin if you beat the dealer’s card from one of the remaining 4.
You can continue to double up each time for a maximum of 5 times unless you either lose to the dealer or decide to claim your winnings. You then go back to the main screen.
