In craps players can choose from as many as 100 bets. Each type of bet comes with odds which are either more in favor of the casino or the player. The odds in the game are based on the how many ways you can get a combination from 36 possible options with a two dice roll. The more ways a combination can be created, the better are your odds of winning if you bet on that number.
Odds of Craps combinations
Seven has the highest odds at 6:36, with six combinations. Eight and six follow close behind with 5:36 odds and five combinations each. The next are five and nine, which you can get four ways, giving you odds of 4:36. Four and ten can be made three ways and have odds of 3:36, while three and eleven have odds of 2:36. The lowest odds are for 2 and 12, at 1:1, with both possible just one way.
Odds on a few bets
Here are some of the odds paid by most gaming sites on players’ bets:
Pass or Come Bet: It will have 251:244 true odds, with odds paid at 1:1. The house edge for the bet, which is a multi-roll option, is 1.41%. This is a contract bet where once a point is set, the player cannot change the bet.
Don’t Pass: Also known as don’t come bet, it has true odds of 976:949, with odds paid at 1:1. The site will have an edge of 1.36% on the multi-roll bet. With this bet players have an advantage they don’t get with the come bet - they can control the wager.
Craps (12, 3 or 2): In case you wager on any of the three numbers, the true odds will be 8:1, while the paid odds will be 7:1. The house edge is quite high at 11.11% in the multi-roll bet.
Pass odds and Don’t Pass odds
There are two line bets for which you can set the odds – pass-line and don’t pass-line.
Pass-Line odds: In case a 10, 9, 8, 6, 5 or 4 is rolled on the come-out after a point has been set, the site will allow you to decide the odds you want to play. For this you will have to place a wager which is one to five times the pass-line bet. If the shooter gets the point before hitting a seven, the additional bet will win. It will pay 2:1 true odds in case the point is 4 or 10, 3:2 if it is 5 or 9, and 6:5 if it is 6 or 8.
Don’t Pass odds: A player can lay the odds on a don’t pass bet if he is using it. True odds of 1:2 on a 4 or 10, 2:3 on 5 or 9 and 5:6 on 6 or 8 point, pay in case a 7 comes before the point.
The benefit of opting for the odds bets are that they are paid at their actual odds. When you play pass odds on a pass-line bet that is equal to just the minimum, the house edge will reduce. It will fall to the lowest edge if you use the maximum odds wager on the pass-line bet.
